Auburn forward Josh Dollard (below) will take a leave of absence from the basketball team for medical reasons and will redshirt for the 2007-08 season, coach Jeff Lebo announced Monday.
Dollard will still have two years of eligibility remaining following his redshirt season.
Dollard was the Tigers’ leading scorer and rebounder last year averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, respectively. In the final five games of the season, the Hemingway, S.C., native averaged 15.6 points while shooting 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.
Auburn also announced that senior forward Quan Prowell will be suspended for at least six games for violation of team rules. The earliest he may return is the Dec. 5 West Virginia game.
“Quan needs to focus on his priorities,” Lebo said in a news release. “When
he begins to exhibit the qualities of accountability and dependability, he will be welcomed back to play with us.”
Prowell averaged 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range in 2006-07.
