The last Arkansas team to win at Kentucky went on to win a national championship. That was in 1994, when the Hogs beat Duke to take the title.
Despite UK’s dominance in the series, which includes a current streak of seven straight wins by the Cats, Kentucky will need a great effort to beat the Hogs on Saturday.
“We’re going to have to play by far the best we’ve played all year to have any chance,” UK Coach Billy Gillispie said. “…The game will be decided not by history, but by two teams and how they perform.” [Hear Gillispie’s Friday news conference.]
Gillispie called pressure on the ball a big key in the game. He said he hoped the Cats could play at a bit of a faster pace.
Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald- Leader has covered Kentucky basketball since the 1981-82 season. That time includes five coaches, five Final Fours, four athletic directors, two interim athletic directors and many memories. Before coming to Lexington, Tipton worked eight years for the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch. He covered Marshall’s basketball team for two seasons before coming to the Herald-Leader.
I am so happy that Coach Gillespie is our coach. I think his hard nose discipline is just exactly what we need and he’s doing it. Our players have finally decided it’s his way or the highway and Coach Gillespie certainly has them becoming BELIEVERS!!!!!
Look how Crawford and Bradly have come forth to take control when on the floor.
I love it and I can’t say enough about Patrick Patterson. He’s a work horse and gets it done.
Go Cats.
