Sophomore guard Derrick Jasper will not play against Pikeville College in Wednesday’s exhibition game, Kentucky Coach Billy Gillispie said.
Jasper has not practiced since Oct. 22 because of recurring complications associated with a surgically repaired knee. The surgery was on June 16 can require a lengthy rehabilitation.
“He’s frustrated,” Gillispie said. “I’m frustrated because we need him back. Yesterday. He can make the difference in the team in a lot of areas.”
The UK coach noted Jasper’s ability to think ahead as a player and defend multiple positions.
Although the type of knee surgery can sideline a player for a year, Gillispie said he expected Jasper to return this season.
All of UK’s other walking wounded could play against :Pikeville, the coach siad. But Gillispie noted again that big man Jared Carter has — understandably — been favoring his surgically repaired right shoulder.
