Sophomore guard Jodie Meeks’ 27 first-half points matched Pikeville College’s output Wednesday night. The Cats had a 51-27 lead at the break and cruised to a 99-64 exhibition victory.
Meeks shrugged off that odd statistical feat.
“I didn’t even know that,” he said. “You can’t really think of that. At halftime, we focused on it being 0-0 and keep playing.”
Meeks, whose 34 points would have smashed his career high (18 against Louisville and LSU), made 10 of 12 shots. He hit seven of nine three-point attempts. In a game that counted, his seven three-pointers would have been just two shy of a Rupp Arena record (nine by Tony Delk).
“I don’t consider myself a great shooter,” said Meeks, who made 36.4 percent of his three-point attempts last season, but only 41.90 percent of all shots. “I consider myself a good shooter. I work on it as much as I can as well as other things like passing and dribbling.”
Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald- Leader has covered Kentucky basketball since the 1981-82 season. That time includes five coaches, five Final Fours, four athletic directors, two interim athletic directors and many memories. Before coming to Lexington, Tipton worked eight years for the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch. He covered Marshall’s basketball team for two seasons before coming to the Herald-Leader.
Hopefully we can do this to large colleges.
The Meeks shall inherit the earth.
meeks should be our team leader because he can shot the ball well he went 7-9 for threes he can find the open man and make the play when they need it
