UK spokesman Scott Stricklin just called to say Patrick Patterson is out for the season.
The star freshman has sustained a stress fracture in his left ankle. X-rays on Friday revealed the break. Patterson will need about eight weeks to recover, Stricklin said.
Patterson and UK Coach Billy Gillispie will be at a news conference later Friday afternoon to discuss the injury and its effect on Kentucky’s season.
The injury is the latest in a string of medical problems to haunt Kentucky this season. Earlier such players as Jodie Meeks and Derrick Jasper were sidelined.
Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald- Leader has covered Kentucky basketball since the 1981-82 season. That time includes five coaches, five Final Fours, four athletic directors, two interim athletic directors and many memories. Before coming to Lexington, Tipton worked eight years for the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch. He covered Marshall’s basketball team for two seasons before coming to the Herald-Leader.
I’m a die hard Louisville Cardinal fan and nothing is ever going to change that. However, i’m a huge fan of Patrick Patterson. I hate this for him. The charecter and attitude that he displays on the court should exist as a role model for other players in basketball. I hate to hear this news.
Just when we were really making a push for the NCAAs…I honestly don’t know where Gillispie turns now. AJ Stewart has played decent in limited minutes lately, but he’s certainly not the post presence that we need to continue to play the same style of basketball that we have in the past few weeks of this hot streak. I’m sure Coury works hard, but he has no business playing let alone starting for UK… Carter is a 7 foot tall waste of space…Williams is so far in the doghouse, he is probably looking at collie butt right now…Perry Stevenson just became our best and most experienced post player (GULP)
This is one of those years, you just wanna end ASAP…..I guess we’ll see what kinda bench we do have…We can’t go out and feel sorry for ourselves….we still do have some very great players on this team….
