It wouldn’t be Kentucky basketball without intrigue.
The latest example involves Morakinyo Williams and walk-on Dusty Mills. Their transgression: the camera catching them smiling and/or laughing on the bench at Vanderbilt as Kentucky was getting beat 93-52.
Neither player made the trip to LSU last weekend.
During a news conference on Monday, UK Coach Billy Gillispie was asked why Williams did not make the trip. Gillispie said he simply chose not to take Williams, and that the player was not suspended.
Perhaps something else will surface Tuesday night when Kentucky plays Georgia.
Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald- Leader has covered Kentucky basketball since the 1981-82 season. That time includes five coaches, five Final Fours, four athletic directors, two interim athletic directors and many memories. Before coming to Lexington, Tipton worked eight years for the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch. He covered Marshall’s basketball team for two seasons before coming to the Herald-Leader.
Well, if true, that is an open scholarship for Hopson. Does anyone know if Carter was laughing?
If this is true, good for Coach Gillispie. A humiliating 41pt loss should make any player that bleeds Kentucky blue sick to his stomach. If not, then they don’t deserve to wear the uniform.
If these players don’t take the game any more seriously than that they have no business wearing the uniform. The days of “Team Turmoil” went north with that other coach. If you display a bad attitude now expect to be wearing a new uniform soon.
